Vietnam is the top food destination for South Korean, Japanese, and Thai travelers, says Agoda. Vietnamese cuisine's global appeal continues to grow.
Vietnam has been named the top destination for food enthusiasts from South Korea, Japan, and Thailand, according to a recent survey conducted by digital travel platform Agoda. The survey, which took place between August 1 and 19, highlights Vietnam's growing appeal as a culinary hotspot for visitors from these countries.
Vietnam's Culinary Appeal
The survey shows that South Korean, Japanese, and Thai travelers are particularly drawn to Vietnam’s diverse and flavorful cuisine. The country’s culinary offerings, from street food to high-end dining experiences, have become a key attraction for tourists. Signature Vietnamese dishes, such as goi cuon (fresh summer rolls) and pho (noodle soup), continue to capture the attention of food lovers from around the globe.
According to Agoda, more than 4,000 travelers from 10 markets—including India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam—participated in the survey. Visitors from these countries have increasingly chosen Vietnam as a destination to explore its rich food culture.
A Nation of Culinary Pride
"Food isn't just about eating; it's about exploring, experiencing, and savoring every bite. Our cuisine is a point of national pride, and Vietnamese people love sharing their favorite dishes with travelers from around the world," said Vu Ngoc Lam, Agoda's Vietnam Country Director.
Over the past few decades, Vietnamese cuisine has garnered international recognition. Several of the country’s signature dishes have been praised by renowned chefs and featured in prestigious food magazines. This growing international reputation has helped position Vietnam as a must-visit destination for food tourism.
International Recognition of Vietnamese Cuisine
Vietnam’s food scene continues to receive accolades from global audiences. In 2023, the country was ranked 22nd on TasteAtlas’s list of the world’s 100 "Best Cuisines," a testament to its culinary excellence. Vietnamese dishes, known for their balance of flavors and use of fresh ingredients, have made a lasting impression on international travelers and food critics alike.
With its vibrant street markets, top-tier restaurants, and a diverse array of dishes, Vietnam is becoming a go-to destination for foodies seeking authentic and unforgettable culinary experiences.
