The Laos visa online application form simplifies the process of obtaining permission to visit the country. There are three ways that visitors can obtain a Laos visa. Travelers to he country can apply for a Laos visa by:
- Obtaining a Laos visa through the online application form
- Visiting an embassy or consulate for a visa before traveling
- Apply for a Laos visa on arrival

The online visa application for Laos has been designed to speed up the process of getting a visa. To apply for a travel authorization the registrant must be a citizen of an eligible country. At present, citizens of 150 eligible nations can apply for the Laos eVisa Approval Letter.
It is necessary to complete all mandatory fields on the Laos form. Applicants should be careful when providing their personal details on the eVisa application for Laos as the data given on the application must match the information on their passport or other identifying documents.
This type of visa authorization will allow a single-entry stay of 30 days in Laos. Those wishing to visit Laos on a multiple-entry visa or to stay longer than 30 days are required to apply for a travel permit from a visa from their nearest Lao Embassy or Consulate.
When the Laos eVisa is approved, the traveler will be able to enter Laos through one of the following entry ports:
- Wattay International Airport
- Luang Prabang International Airport
- Pakse International Airport
- Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge I
- Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge II
Travel Documents Required to Enter Lao PDR with the Evisa
The travel documents required to enter Laos with the Approval Letter or eVisa include the following:
- A valid passport with a minimum validity of 6 months from the date of arrival
- A printed copy of the Laos eVisa Approval Letter
- Recent passport-style color photo that follow the evisa photo guidelines
- Additional documents may be required depending on nationality
Note: These additional documents can be submitted later if the applicant doesn’t have them at the moment of the application process. By accessing the link in their confirmation email, the applicant will be able to return to their application and provide the additional documents required by the Laos government.
Laos Visa on Arrival Requirements
Eligible travelers should apply for their eVisa at least 7 days before departure. The eVisa takes 3 business days to process.
However, in the case a foreign traveler does not have enough time to apply for the eVisa approval letter, they are able to obtain the visa on arrival. Citizens eligible for a visa on arrival must also have with them a completed visa application form with one of the photographs attached to it.
To get the visa on arrival at a Laos port of entry, the traveler will need to pay a fee that might vary according to their nationality, and date and time of arrival.
Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions in Laos, only fully vaccinated foreign visitors on pre-booked tours will be able to enter Laos and visit specified locations.
Travelers who are exempt from the entry ban need several additional documents:
- Certificate showing a negative COVID-19 PCR test result issued no more than 72 hours before departure
- Reservation confirmation on a tour in the approved destination for tourists.
- Medical insurance policy with coverage of at least USD 50,000.
- Completed Laos Health Declaration form with a vaccination certificate and COVID-19 test results.
